Timber decks need a completely different approach to concrete, and getting it wrong causes real damage — furring, splintering, and grain raising that leaves the timber rough and prone to further deterioration. We clean timber and composite decks across Brisbane using a controlled low-pressure method between 1,500 and 2,500 PSI with wide fan tips, combined with the right cleaning chemistry to do the heavy lifting. We work with all the common Brisbane deck timbers — Merbau, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, treated pine, and Queensland hardwoods — and we know how each species responds to pressure and chemicals. For composite decking like Trex, ModWood, and NewTechWood, we follow manufacturer cleaning guidelines to maintain warranty compliance. A deck clean done right should leave the timber smooth, clean, and ready for oiling or staining.

What's Included
Our deck pressure cleaning covers the full deck surface, steps, and any built-in bench seating. We pre-treat with an appropriate timber cleaning solution — oxalic acid-based brighteners for greyed or tannin-stained hardwood, sodium percarbonate for general grime and mould on treated pine. Balustrades, handrails, and posts are cleaned by hand lance at reduced pressure. We check all boards for structural issues — rot, loose fixings, and termite damage — and let you know if we spot anything that needs attention. After cleaning, we can apply a timber brightener to restore the natural colour before oiling or staining if required.
Surfaces We Clean
We clean all deck types found on Brisbane properties — Merbau decking, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Jarrah, treated pine (H3 and H4 rated), cypress, and mixed Queensland hardwood species. We also handle composite decking brands including Trex, ModWood, NewTechWood, and Ekodeck. Handrails and balustrades in timber, powder-coated aluminium, stainless steel, and glass are all cleaned as part of the service. We adjust our technique for each material — hardwoods handle slightly more pressure than softwoods, while composites need the gentlest approach with no harsh chemicals.
Our Method (Soft Wash / Pressure Wash)
We start by clearing the deck of all furniture, pots, and mats. We sweep the surface and clear debris from between board gaps. The deck is then pre-treated with a cleaning solution matched to the timber species — this breaks down mould, algae, and grey weathering at the cellular level. After the dwell time, we clean with low pressure using a wide fan tip, always working with the grain direction to prevent furring. We rinse thoroughly, and if you are planning to oil or stain, we apply a timber brightener to open the grain and restore the natural colour. The deck is left clean and ready for finishing once dry.
Why Brisbane Properties Need This
Brisbane’s climate is tough on timber decks. High humidity and warm temperatures accelerate mould and algae growth, particularly on the underside of boards and in shaded areas. Summer UV exposure greys and degrades unprotected timber rapidly — a Merbau deck can go from rich brown to silver-grey in a single Brisbane summer without adequate oil protection. Storm season dumps water and organic debris that sits in board gaps and promotes rot. Regular deck cleaning removes biological growth before it penetrates the timber, and prepares the surface for protective oil or stain that extends the deck’s life significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will pressure cleaning damage my timber deck?
Not when done correctly. The key is using low pressure — between 1,500 and 2,500 PSI — with a wide fan tip, and always cleaning with the grain. High pressure or a zero-degree nozzle will fur and splinter timber, which is why we never use those on decks. Our crews are specifically trained in timber cleaning and understand how different species respond.
Can you clean a Merbau deck without removing the colour?
Deck pressure cleaning actually helps restore Merbau’s natural colour by removing the grey oxidised layer. We use an oxalic acid-based brightener after cleaning to bring back the rich brown tones. To keep that colour, you will need to apply a quality decking oil once the timber is dry — we can recommend products that work well in Brisbane’s climate.
How long after cleaning before I can oil my deck?
We recommend waiting at least 48 hours for the timber to dry completely before applying oil or stain. In Brisbane’s humid conditions, this can sometimes stretch to 72 hours, especially during the wetter months. The timber needs to be below 15 per cent moisture content for most oil products to absorb properly — we can advise on the best timing.
Do you clean composite decking like Trex?
Yes, we clean all major composite decking brands. Composite decking requires lower pressure and no harsh chemical treatments to maintain the manufacturer warranty. We follow the cleaning guidelines specified by each brand and use appropriate biodegradable cleaning solutions. Composite cleans up very well and does not need oiling afterwards.
How often should I clean my deck in Brisbane?
We recommend cleaning your timber deck at least once a year, ideally before re-oiling. Decks in heavy shade or under trees may need cleaning every six to eight months. Composite decks generally need cleaning once a year. Regular cleaning prevents mould from establishing deep in the timber grain, which makes each subsequent clean faster and more effective.
